On January 12, 2014 COSCO line’s vessel COSCO Hamburg called Aden Container Terminal and discharged transshipment containers. Eng. Mohammed A. Wasa’a, the General Manager of Aden Ports Development Company (APDC), welcomed the COSCO’s vessel and boarded on the vessel accompanied by Mr. Ahmed Al-Dulai, Aden Governorate Undersecretary, Mr. Ali Mukhadri, Middle East Shipping Co. Manager (COSCO line local agent), Mr. Ibrahim Dadiah, Ports and Martime coordinator in the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce –Aden, Mr. Abdul Hakeem Radman, Aden Free Zone Customs Manager, and number of businessmen and officials and greeted the Vessel Captain.
Eng. Mohammed A. Wasa’a stated to the press that the arrival of the first batch of COSCO transshipment containers is proving the capability and competence of the Aden Container Terminal services, however the terminal management is negotiating with other shipping lines for transshipment targeting to be the favorable transshipment hub of most of carriers in Gulf of Aden and lower Red Sea region. Further, he added that the Yemen Gulf of Aden Ports Corporation entered into an agreement with Chinese company (CHEC) for dredging the channel up to 18m and extension of berth by 1000m. After implementation of this project, Port of Aden will be receiving ultra large container vessels.
